Roxanna Johnson
Founder / Co-Owner / Instructor
Roxanna Johnson is the owner and creative director for the Dancin’ With Roxie studios in Hampton and Clear Lake. She was born and raised in Hampton, IA. She started dancing at the age of three and quickly discovered it was her one true calling. Roxanna was on competitive teams and won many high point awards in her competitive years. Roxanna has also attended many workshops in her dance career studying with famous choreographers including Mia Michaels, Shane Sparks, Laurie Ann Gibson, Jo Rowan, and Sarah Jo Fazio. Roxanna attended North Iowa Area Community College earning an Associate’s Degree and then continued her education at Iowa State University earning a Bachelor’s of Arts degree in Performing Arts with a Dance Emphasis.

While at ISU, Roxanna was a member of the nationally ranked Iowa State Pom Squad. Since opening Dancin’ with Roxie in 2004, Roxanna has had many accomplishments as a teacher and choreographer.

In 2008, Roxanna Johnson choreographed 1st place National Award Winning Jazz Routine for the Clear Lake Dance Team, “As Fast As you Can”. Roxanna was the Hampton-Dumont High School Dance Team coach 2007-2011 with several top 5 placements. In 2009 under her direction Clayton Velasquez won the Class II Dance State Solo Championship and continued on to graduate from the best dance college in the nation, University of Arizona. Roxanna’s biggest accomplishment to date is having many DWR Alumni dance collegiately at universities nationally.

In 2013 Roxanna purchased the America’s US Miss Minnesota and Midwest pageant along with her sister ,Richelle, and they successfully held their first pageant in January of 2013. Roxanna resides in Sheffield with her husband Adam, and their children Kylin and twins Adra, and Emerli.
Richelle Morrissey
Co-Owner / Instructor
At a young age, Richelle discovered a passion for being on stage. At age three, she began what would be many years of performing, through dance. She is a proud member of the original Dancin’ With Roxie Competition team and has many awards and accomplishments to show as a result. Richelle was a 4 year member of the nationally ranked Iowa State University Dance Team.

At Iowa State, Richelle graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Event Management. Richelle hopes to own and operate a national level dance competition system in the very near future. She wants to make a difference in the danceworld and in young dancer’s lives by helping to give them the means to improve and to continue to succeed.

Aside from her dance career, Richelle has also thrived in the pageant world. In 2011, she wascrowned Miss Iowa Teen USA 2011. In, 2013 Richelle competed in the Miss USA pageant in Las Vegas as Miss Iowa USA 2013.

Also in 2013, Richelle purchased the America’s US Miss Minnesota and Midwest pageant along with her sister, Roxanna Johnson. They successfully held their first pageant in January. She resides in Ames with her husband, Cory.
Liz LeFevre
North Iowa Elite Director
Liz LeFevre grew up in Holden, Massachusetts. She started dancing at the age of 4 with the Karen Jean White School of Dance.She graduated from the University of Massachusetts with a Bachelor in Business Administration and a minor in dance.

She moved to Iowa in 2000 where she earned her CPA and worked in public accounting for a number of years before moving into the private sector. She is currently the accountant at First Gabrielson Agency. Liz just finished her 5th year working with the Dancin’ With Roxie Competition team.Liz is beginning her 14th year coaching the Clear Lake HighSchool Dance team, a team that she founded. Her teams have been successful on both the state and national levels.

In 2010, she received the UPA Americup Coach of the Year- Top Five Award. She continues her education in dance by attending coach’s seminars and conferences.

Liz is a member of the Board of Directors for the Iowa State Dance and Drill Team Association, where she co-heads the mentoring programming.Liz lives in Clear Lake with her husband Jay and their children Emily and Tyler.
Jill Petersen
Ankeny Elite Director
Jill Petersen has a dynamic background in the world of dance. She has been employed in the Spirit Industry since 1997 for Varsity Spirit, the leader in the Cheer and Dance industry. Jill is a NCA/NDA Regional Manager in Training & Education where she assists with the set up and administration of camps and clinics all over the Midwest region for the National Cheerleaders Association and National Dance Alliance. She is involved with national competitions such as NCA/NDA All Star Nationals, NCA High School Nationals, NDA High School Nationals, and NCA/NDA College Nationals. Jill started her coaching career in 1989 at Waterloo Columbus High School where she coached dance for ten years. During this time her teams accomplished multiple state championship titles in pom, jazz, and kick and had National competition appearances along the way. Currently, Jill is the head dance team coach at Iowa State University. Throughout her 17 years of coaching at Iowa State, her team has accomplished many awards. The Iowa State Dance Team has numerous state titles and they have placed in the Top 5 at NDA Nationals during the last five years. This year the Iowa State Dance Team received their highest finish yet, PLACING 2nd IN THE NATION! Jill is also the assistant dance team coach at Ankeny Centennial High School. Along with coaching, she has choreography experience in pom, jazz, kick, military, prop and novelty. Jill is passionate about working with dancers of all ages and watching them grow throughout their dance careers. She is excited to use her expertise to help inspire DWR Elite to meet and surpass their goals!
Reann Orr
Elite Coach/Instructor
Reann Orr has had a fascination with everything dance from a very young age. She has been dancing for fifteen years and always knew in her heart that she would share her passion as a teacher someday. She is an original member of the Dancin’ With Roxie Competition team; a team that she competed with for nine years winning numerous top honors, including two national championships during her senior year. She served as an assistant teacher for nine years at DWR. During her formative years, Reann received many awards and scholarships as a result of her passion for dance. She strives to help young dancers succeed and strive for their highest potential. While attending high school at Hampton-Dumont, Reann was a member of the H-D Dance team for four years. She was selected to be on the All Iowa Dance Team for three years. She also competed as part of the Iowa State Solo competition, one of the toughest in the nation, for four years and placed 6th overall in 2011.Reann currently resides in Hampton while she finishes her degree. She is attending Iowa State University and pursuing a Liberal Arts Degree. Throughout her dance career, Reann has received many awards and scholarships to show, as a result of her passion for dance. She strives to help young dancers succeed and exceed their highest potential.
Katy Lubkeman
Elite Coach/Instructor
Katy Lubkeman’s passion for dance started at a very young age while she was taking dance at a local studio. Katy graduated from Clear Lake High School. While in high school she was a member of the Clear Lake Dance Team for three years.

While on the CLDT Katy was chosen to as a member of the All-Iowa Honor Drill Team junior and senior year. She later went on to attend NIACC where she was a NIACC singer, cheered, and was the on the NIACC Dance Team. Katy received her Liberal Arts degree from NIACC after two years.

While attending NIACC, She was also the long-time assistant coach for the CLHS Dance Team. After NIACC, Katy went on to study dance at the University of Iowa for three years. Katy is starting her fifth season as an assistant coach for the CLHS Dance Team.Katy works full time at the Sheffield Elementary as a preschool para-eduacator. Katy lives in Sheffield with her husband, Will and black lab, Ellie.
Danielle Petersen
Elite Coach/Instructor
Danielle Petersen grew up in Ankeny and graduated high school from Ankeny Centennial. She is a sophomore at Iowa State University where she majors in business. Danielle is a member of the Iowa State Dance Team. During her first year on the team, they were State champions in jazz, pom and hip-hop and placed second in the Nation at NDA College Nationals. Danielle is looking forward to having a leadership role on the team this year as a workout leader. Danielle started out as a competitive gymnast where she competed in multiple different states. At the age of 13, she transitioned to dance due to gymnastics-related injuries. With a skilled tumbling background, Danielle was able to carry over her varied gymnastics technique and skills into her dancing. During Danielle’s dance career, she has competed in both regional and national competitions. She was a three year member of the high school dance team. She finished her senior year as a captain for the first Ankeny Centennial Dance Team. They had a lot of success during this inaugural season. In Danielle's free time, she likes to spend time with family and friends. She loves working with kids and being able to watch them grow in new ways!
Erin Malloy
Elite Coach/Instructor
Erin Malloy began dancing at the age of 3 at the Robert Thomas Dance Center in Ames, Iowa. She trained in all styles of dance, including Irish, and participated in the studio’s competition team and the Nutcracker ballet. In high school she began going to Behn’s Centre of Dance in Boone and was a member of its competition team. Erin was involved in power tumbling growing up, and she competed in tumbling, trampoline, and double mini trampoline for Elite Power Tumbling under the instruction of Rona Crook. She assisted in teaching the tumbling classes at Behn’s Centre of Dance in high school, and she has been teaching the beginning through advanced tumbling classes for five years. Erin has also taught ballet, tap, jazz, and hip-hop for Behn’s Centre of Dance. Erin is a graduate of Iowa State University where she majored in English and journalism. She was a four-year member of the Iowa State University Dance Team. As a member of the ISU Dance Team, she performed at football and basketball games and competed at the state and national level. Erin currently works in Des Moines at Meredith Corporation.
Karyl Helling Christensen
Elite Coach/Instructor
Karyl Helling Christensen has 24 years of dance experience and 18 years of teaching/choreography experience. Karyl is a past competitive soloist, trio, small/large group, production and dance line performer. She has won several awards regionally in Minnesota as well as nationally in other states.

Karyl is trained in Jazz, Tap, Ballet, Modern, Pointe, Lyrical, and Middle Eastern,as well as other genres. She is also trained in Junior Olympic Compulsory routines and she has experience coaching bar, vault, beam, and floor tumbling styles. Karyl studied at the Dance Conservatory of So. MN located in Mankato, MN. She has also attended many dance workshops and classes throughout her dance career.

In 2012 she moved to Mason City with her husband Jim and daughter Sara. Karyl finished her Bachelor’s Degree of Early Childhood Development from Kaplan in 2015 and is the Preschool teacher at Sunbeam Preschool and Daycare in Mason City.
Marissa Olk
Instructor
Marissa began dancing at the age of three. She is a current longtime student at Dancin With Roxie. This will be her 15th year of studio dance. She has been on Dancin With Roxie’s competition for 7 years. A highlight of Marissa’s tenure on the competition team was winning a national championship for the routines, “I’m on a Roll” and “Gates of Heaven.” While at DWR, Marissa has been an assistant for many years and also enjoys choreographing. Marissa is currently a senior at Clear Lake High School. She is a four year member of the Clear Lake High School Dance Team and CLDT competition team as well. Recently, she was voted captain of the high school dance team. Along with many hours of dancing, Marissa is also a Clear Lake Cheerleader for football and wrestling, and is on the High School Student Council. She enjoys hanging out with her friends/family, spending time at the dance studio, and watching kids grow in their love for dance.
Emilee Petersen
Instructor
Emilee Petersen started gymnastics at a young age but found an interest for dance as soon as she started taking lessons at the age of 8. She was on a competitive dance team with a studio for 6 years. She has taught many dance classes and loves to be involved with kids. Emilee is in her 2nd year on the Ankeny Centennial Dance T eam and Cheer squad. She has grown up surrounded by dancers her entire life and wouldn’t have it any other way. She enjoys participating in dance conventions and expanding her knowledge base. She loves to learn new styles and gain new perspectives from a variety of educators and masters. Emilee is very passionate about dance and she values the strong work ethic that it takes to succeed and grow as a dancer. She hopes to help other young dancers by sharing her knowledge and helping inspire them to work hard and exceed all limitations.
Kate Netten
Instructor
Kate Netten grew up in Ankeny, Iowa. She is currently a senior at Iowa State University and captain of the Iowa State University Dance Team. Since the age of 2 she has been developing her passion for dance both as an individual and as a team member. She has competed in regional and National dance competitions for 11 years. In High School, Kate spent some of her spare time teaching dance classes and fell in love with helping others pursue their dreams of dancing. She was on the Ankeny High School Dance Team for 3 years. Kate is currently a fourth year member of the Iowa State Dance Team. As Captain, Kate hopes to help lead her team to a victory at State competition, as well as a successful showing at Nationals in Daytona, FL. The ISU Dance Team placed second nationally in Daytona last year. Along with teaching, Kate has choreographed many routines ranging from solos to high school team dances. She hopes to continue her passion of dance after college through teaching, coaching, and choreographing. She is graduating with a degree in Elementary Education with a Coaching Minor. Her dream is to one day coach at the collegiate level. In her spare time she enjoys traveling, being outdoors, spending time with friends and family, and preparing for her upcoming wedding in July 2016. Kate will be joining our DWR Elite coaching staff as well as the Ankeny Studio!
